So, my younger brother started flipping houses a few years ago, and was quite successful at it until the economy fell flat. But before that happened, he encouraged me to try it. And even before that, I enjoyed immensely working with Habitat for Humanity. That was really cool because I learned so much about the inner workings of actually building a house. When I told my brother that “flipping” was completely out of my league, he simply assured me, “That’s no different from sewing. You just use different materials!”
Hmm. That made sense! So I tried it! I was able to successfully “flip” one house (and made a substantial profit) before the market took its fall.
I enjoyed THAT venture so much; I can’t wait to get back into it. I’m constantly looking for “just the right house.” Having a financial investor would be nice! (Any takers?) I learned so much: how to choose a good prospect, weighing the cost of repairs needed against the possible selling price based on the “comps” in the neighborhood or area.
I just love “before and after” scenarios!
And when it came to “staging” the house for viewing, oh, I was all into it! My interior designing (some say) skills kicked in. Whew! What a rush!
Hence, my subsidiary is called “Spaces by Scott.”
So since the economy would not cooperate for a minute, I decided to just decorate the interior of my own home. Room by room, I’ve created an eclectic look all over the house. Hardwood floors still need to be refinished in three of the bedrooms, but I did get the living room and hallway floors completed. Mom’s grand piano really sets off the living room!
I need to take the time to “do” downstairs! With the sewing room on that level – what a mess!
Even though I enjoy interior designing, I could probably use a good organizer!
I wonder if I would be a candidate for that TV show, “Hoarders.” Hmm... I hope I’m not that bad. Perhaps, if I upholster a few pieces for other people and use some of the fabrics that are so prevalent in my sewing room, I could see my way clear of all the “stuff!”
Anyway, I love looking at and through beautiful homes. My sister-in-law and I made a pact years ago, that we could make our homes LOOK expensive, without being expensive. That’s a challenge that we’ve come to embrace gracefully and graciously. Creating our own stuff (window treatments, upholstered chairs, room accents, and picture frames) helps a lot. And we’re continuously working toward that playful goal!
